NW Education to demolish pit toilets in Vryburg school─── LUCKY NKUYANE 07:53 Wed, 17 Apr 2019

Pit toilets at the Kgononyane Secondary School in Southey Village in Vryburg are to be demolished next week following an incident where a girl fell into an unused toilet last week.
The Department of Education in the North West says there are newly built toilets at that school.
Spokesperson, Freddy Sepeng, says following the incident it remains unclear as to how the girl gained entry into the toilet but this is a matter the department will investigate.
He previously refuted claims that the pupil was in the hospital after falling into a toilet and said they were not completely true.
Contrary to those close to the learner, Sepeng says the pupil went into the unused pit toilet, which was already not in a good condition, and unfortunately fell inside. She, fortunately, managed to escape unharmed and is in a good condition, he says.
In 2018 the department came under attack from opposition parties in the province for the lack of proper sanitation at many schools in the province.
DA provincial spokesperson on Health and Education, Tutu Faleni, told OFM News that the situation at the Reoleboge Special School near Rustenburg, amongst others, was compromising learners’ personal hygiene and posed health risks for them.
This, after over 350 learners at this school had to do with only three toilets, where two are shared among boys and another shared by the girls.
