The MEC of Police in the Free State, Sam Mashinini, says more investigations will be done and more arrests will follow after two men aged 33 and 45 were arrested with Anti-Retroviral (ARV) tablets worth R1.2 million in Bloemfontein in the Free State.

One of the suspects allegedly is a department of health official at the Robert Majoro clinic in the Eastern Cape. Mashinini says if there are any more members of the Department of Health involved, they will face the full might of the law. He says the police have already started engaging with the Eastern Cape police to follow up on the matter and make sure that all those involved are arrested. He adds that it is clearly written on the boxes that the pills were meant to be transported to the Zastron Clinic, so why was it heading to the Eastern Cape.

The two men were arrested at the Bloemfontein Railway Station on Thursday 9 January 2020., driving a Grey BMW 3 series with Eastern Cape registration number plates. During the arrest, the police found six boxes and two travelling bags with 1086 ARV units suspected to be transported to the Eastern Cape. The tablets and the vehicle were confiscated. The provincial commissioner, Baile Motswenyane, said these arrests came after intelligence-driven police investigations. She added that this is the biggest arrest to start the year with in the Free State, and applauded the efforts of the police.
