Safer Festive Season operations continue in FS | News Article

Safer Festive Season operations are continuing in the Lejweleputswa District in the Free State.

According to police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, various police stations in the district, including Theunissen private securities and provincial traffic, conducted roadblocks and Vehicle Check Points (VCP) throughout the district’s policing precinct.

The aim is to target stolen properties, ferrous or nonferrous metals, road traffic offences, illegal firearms, illicit drugs, stock theft and those who drive under the influence of liquor. 


Multiple roadblocks in FS

Multiple fines and arrests were made, including the Thabong Trio Task Team arresting a most wanted suspect who breaks into tuckshops of foreigners with a hammer until access is gained to rob them of groceries, cash and airtime vouchers, amongst others.

In Thabong, an operation was held from 6 to 7 January. A 29-year-old suspect called the "Hammer Group", is facing business robbery, attempted murder and conspiracy to commit business robberies. Two other suspects were also arrested for being in possession of dangerous weapons.

Police in Boshof also held a roadblock on the R64 road whereby 78 vehicles and 127 persons were searched. Five traffic-related fines were issued along with three fines for failure to display license disc, two fines for driving without licenses, operating a taxi without a permit and drunkenness. 

In Odendaalsrus, police members held a VCP at the entrance of Kutloanong in K6, led by the Station Commander, Colonel Thenjiwe Mkhumbeni. Two arrests were made for possession of dagga which weighed 00,74 grams and Nyaope drugs which weighed 00,12 grams. One Road Traffic Act fine was issued and two were arrested for drunken driving.

Bronville police also held a VCP where five Road Traffic Act fines were issued.

Welkom police members held a roadblock in Koppie Alleen/Orange circle, accompanied by private security companies. Vehicles and persons were searched.

Finally, Theunissen police officials held a joint roadblock with Provincial Traffic in ZR Mahabane Road.
