Free State premier Sisi Ntombela has called for more efforts to defeat tuberculosis (TB).
She made the call during the commemoration of the World TB Day in Bohlokong, Bethlehem.
Ntombela says the same determination and efforts applied during the height of Covid-19l; must also be applied in the fight against TB.
Earlier Statistics South Africa (StatsSA) revealed that in 2018, TB was the leading cause of death among South Africans, with 454 014 deaths recorded in 2018.

Accompanied by MEC for Health, Motseng Tsiu, and Public Works MEC Motshidisi Koloi, Ntombela said there is no reason for people to die in large numbers, as TB is curable.
"While the country is still reeling from the devastation brought about by Covid-19, the province is cautiously relieved that we seem to be winning the war, although it is not yet over. Covid-19 visited upon our devastation and misery, of which the effects are still felt to this day. It is because of the enormity of the ruin caused by Covid-19, that it may be easy to let our guard down and forget about TB," she said.
