North West ANC conference to sit between May, June | News Article

The North West ANC is expected to hold its Provincial Elective Conference in line with the party guidelines, as the rest of the other provinces.

This despite several issues raised by irate ANC members from various regions in the province, including Matlosana in Klerksdorp.

The ANC Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) has been under attack from disgruntled ANC members following the allegations of rigging and interfering in the election of ward candidates, which emanates from the 2021 Branch General Meetings (BGM) where the party was preparing itself for the local government elections (LGE).

Responding to the developments in the province, the ANC national spokesperson, Pule Mabe, told OFM News that the party will receive a report on the province but they expect it to hold a conference in the province that would sit between May and June.

“We can confirm that the programme we had received in the National Executive Committee (NEC) did point out to work being done by the Interim Provincial Committee (IPC), to make sure that they convene their regional conference and ultimately the provincial conference. So we are expecting that the provincial conference of the Free State and that of the North West, as per the conclusion of the last NEC [sitting], would sit between May and June. So, if there are issues, really that hamper them sitting within that period. The leadership of the IPC will give us those reasons and if they make sense - because ultimately the conference of the ANC are not sitting for the purpose of compliance - we’ve got to make sure that there is a clear political programme that prepares our structures,” Mabe adds.

OFM News previously reported that more than a hundred disgruntled ANC members from four districts in the North West dragged  the party’s IPC to court over an alleged rigged candidate list.

Speaking on behalf of the group of 106, Pakiso Mqikela, told OFM News that they wanted the court to give an order which would direct the (PLC) Provincial List Committee to replace all of the affected individuals as councillors.

Mqikela said the PLC had found that due processes were not followed when deciding on the final list for the 2021 local government election's ward candidates.
