Parents assured of learners' safety at North West winter camps | News Article

North West Education has assured parents about the safety of teachers and learners during the winter camps.

Education MEC Mmaphefo Matsemela said the lives of teachers and learners are the primary concern of the department and committed to ensuring that they are treated with the utmost security and hygiene. Matsemela requested parents to release learners to attend either by daily walk-ins or by booking for accommodation. She says that winter camps have proven to assist learners to understand the content better as they also rehearse previous question papers so to improve their year-end performance.

The provincial spokesperson for Education, Elias Malindi, says a total of 29 802 Grade 12 learners will be housed at 102 camping centers across the province from Friday 24 June until Sunday 17 July 2022 and will operate in a hybrid model wherein other camps will be residential and others walk-ins. In the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District, winter camps will resume on Monday 27 June 2022 due to some administrative delays experienced by the district.

He further adds that throughout the camps, learners will be taught by our dedicated teachers in areas such as Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Commercial subjects and Languages. In his statement, Malindi says learners will be catered for by our food handlers, while transportation will also be available. He concludes that Matsemela will be conducting unannounced visits to the centers to monitor the progress.
