The court case against three people arrested at a protest in Ventersburg has been postponed.

The National Prosecuting Agency's (NPA) spokesperson, Phaladi Shuping, says the case against Tshidiso Motsoane (31), Justice Phamole (37), and Anna Keiketsi (43) was postponed to 25 October 2022, and they were released on bail.

OFM News previously reported that the three people who were arrested after a protest on the N1 at Ventersburg, were expected to appear in court on Tuesday 27 September 2022. SAPS spokesperson, Peter Kareli, said they will be facing charges of public violence.

“What happened was that the members (of SAPS) were trying to clear the road and remove barricades so that traffic can flow freely, but these community members were throwing stones at the SAPS members. These community members are also part of the group who refused to honour an order by the SAPS to disperse from the protected scene,” said Kareli.

The N1 at Ventersburg in the Free State province was partially closed due to a service delivery protest. Police spokesperson, Loraine Earle, said the protest started on Monday morning, 26 September 2022, due to the community not having water for several weeks now. Earle says the protesters were violent on Monday morning, but the situation has since calmed down and is being closely monitored.
