Mangaung mayor to address infrastructure troubles─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 10:43 Thu, 27 Oct 2022
The mayor of the troubled Mangaung Metro Municipality in the Free State is on Thursday 27 October 2022 expected to address issues of infrastructure.
Mangaung Mayor Mxolisi Siyonzana is expected to touch on the Integrated Public Transport Network (IPTN), which includes the road construction of the Moshoeshoe Road, amongst others. OFM News previously reported that the completion of the reconstruction of Moshoeshoe Road in Bloemfontein, is one of the major stalled projects Siyonzana is set to tackle. During the oversight visit in September 2022, Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula announced that the reconstruction of this road in Rocklands, Bloemfontein, is expected to be finished by the end of October this year.

Earlier this year, Auditor-General (AG) Tsakani Maluleke reported that Mangaung Metro Municipality's road and water network infrastructure had deteriorated because the ailing metro failed to properly spend its infrastructure budget accordingly. The municipality had spent less than 2% of its infrastructure budget on repairs and maintenance.
Meanwhile, the Water and Sanitation Minister, Senzo Mchunu, in April stated that 46% of water in the Metro is lost due to water pipe leakages and added that these water pipes have been neglected for years and are not maintained or repaired.
