A child was attacked and killed by a pit bull in Bloemfontein on Saturday.
Provincial police spokesperson, Thabo Covane, says the dog presumably escaped its enclosure shortly after 14:00.
It then jumped over a fence into neighbouring premises.
The child was playing alone at the time. Covane adds police and paramedics were summoned. The boy was, however, declared dead on the scene.
He further adds that an inquest docket was opened at the Mangaung Police Station.
