Work at Greenlands substation almost done: Maluti-a-Phofung | News Article

The troubled Qwaqwa-based Maluti A-Phofung Local Municipality says work to bring the Greenlands substation back to operation is almost done.

Spokesperson, Thabo Khessah, says the sub-station was hit by lightning two weeks ago. A contractor will hopefully deliver oil on Monday, after which tests can be done to ensure all is well.

Kessah says almost 80% of required work has been done in preparation for switching on all affected areas. This, after OFM News previously reported that residents of Tshiame and the Special Economic Zone were without power for the past two weeks.

According to DA councillor in the Maluti-A-Phofung municipality, Eleanor Quinta, the situation has been exacerbated by inclement weather conditions.

This followed shortly after the area was without power for a week due to maintenance, and also experienced power supply issues for an extended period of time over the 2021/22 festive season.

Meanwhile, on Saturday night the ailing national power utility Eskom implemented stage 6 load-shedding.

Eskom in its Twitter feed said, "In order to create space to replenish the emergency generation reserves, Eskom will implement Stage 6 load-shedding from 20:00 tonight until 05:00 Sunday morning."

Eskom further indicated that stage 4 load-shedding will thereafter be implemented until further notice, with the possibility that Stage 6 load-shedding might again be implemented during Sunday night.
