Roleplayers engage in GBVF discussion─── 05:19 Fri, 28 Apr 2023

Northern Cape police, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and Thuthuzela Care Centre (TCC) this week engaged in a Gender Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) discussion in Kimberley.
The engagement was arranged and facilitated by the Northern Cape Government Communication and Information System (GCIS).
It was centered around their role regarding issues related to mainly sexual offences.
Lt Colonel Marli Strydom, the Commander of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) in Galeshewe represented the SAPS in this engagement.
Many sexual offences are often struck from the roll due to several reasons.
Mpho Tau - Senior State Prosecutor at the Galeshewe Court - explained all rape accused must be directly linked to an alleged act.
Evidence can be anything from the body of the suspect or victim, including blood spatter, hair, and other bodily fluids.
Secondly, cases can be struck off the roll when the complainant or witnesses fails to attend court after having been summoned by the investigating officer or the court.
The panel provided clarity and pleaded with the public to play a meaningful role in ensuring the end to GBVF crimes through prevention awareness campaigns, care and support to victims and strengthening the criminal justice system.
