North West resort closed down after fire─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 12:10 Mon, 18 Sep 2023
“These unfortunate incidents happened during Tourism Month, when the North West Province is preparing itself to host the World Tourism Day from 26 to 27 September 2023.”
The Manyane Resort in North West has been closed temporarily following a fire scare.
The resort was gutted by fire on Saturday (16/9), the same day the Sun City Cabanas Hotel suffered fire damage. OFM News previously reported about the fire which broke out in the Cabanas' kitchen at about 14:30.
Sun City General Manager, Brett Hoppe, said the staff noticed a small fire, which they extinguished, however, it had already spread through the extraction ventilation to the reception area.
It's understood the Manyane Resort suffered the same fate. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Meanwhile, Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism spokersperson Jerry Matebesi said their department is working closely with the management of the Cabanas Hotel and Manyane Resort to establish the cause of the fires.
“These unfortunate incidents happened during Tourism Month when the North West Province is preparing to host the World Tourism Day from 26 to 27 September. It’s equally important to indicate that the fire outbreak in Sun City happened immediately after the North West Government held a successful Premiers Investor Dinner.”
Matebesi said MEC Virginia Tlhapi will be working hand in hand with the management of the resorts to try and normalise the situation. He confirmed that the Manyane Resort is closed for now.
Matebesi said the Park “Mahala” week programme will continue in other parks in the province.
