Service delivery issues to take centre stage at Ramaphosa's imbizo in North West─── LUCKY NKUYANE 11:16 Fri, 13 Oct 2023

Stubborn service delivery issues of communities in North West are set to come under sharp scrutiny during a presidential Imbizo in the JB Marks Municipality soon.
Matters of corruption, fraud and crime will be among the issues which are set to take centre stage on this presidential imbizo of Cyril Ramaphosa Potchefstroom next week.
President Ramaphosa is heading back to the province after a visit in 2022 in Mahikeng. According to the provincial government spokesperson, Brian Setswambung, the province will be hosting a District Development Model (DDM) Presidential Imbizo which will take place on Friday 20/10. Setswambung said the initiative is aimed at intensifying the provision of services, promoting social cohesion and advancing developmental programmes that are aimed at creating economic opportunities for locals.
Ramaphosa on that day will be flanked by among others, acting Premier Nono Maloyi.
“The DDM Presidential Imbizo aims to create an interactive platform for the President, Ministers and the provincial leaders to engage with communities and find solutions to challenges of socio-economic concerns confronting them on a daily basis. The Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality consists of three local municipalities, namely JB Marks, Matlosana and Maquassi Hills, and has a total population of just above 800,000 people,” he said.
Mining and agriculture have been dubbed key economic activities in the district with transportation of goods through the N12 Corridor having the potential to unlock various economic opportunities in logistics and tourism.
“The Dr Kenneth Kaunda DDM Presidential Imbizo follows on the commitments the provincial government made to tackle service-delivery challenges during the first leg of the Imbizo, which was held at Mahikeng last year. The Imbizo comes at a time when the implementation of the province’s integrated Accelerated Service Delivery Programme – Thuntsha Leroleis – is in full swing to respond to various service delivery challenges in municipalities,” Setswambung added.
