“No sensitive information, dockets, or files were taken as they are not stored in these offices but have a secured area where they are safely kept.”
No arrests have been made after a burglary at the Department of Public Prosecution offices in Bloemfontein on Monday (4/11).
Employees discovered on Monday morning that someone had broken into the offices on the corner of Aliwal and St. Andrew Streets, said Free State police spokesperson Lorraine Earle. Four laptops with an estimated value of R100,000 were stolen.
The suspect(s) managed to break into the offices of the director of public prosecutions (DPP), the deputy DPP, the DPP’s personal assistant as well as numerous other offices, said Northern Cape and Free State NPA spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane.
“Even though these criminals managed to break into this central nerve of prosecutions in the province, (citizens) of the republic and Free State … can rest assured that no sensitive information, dockets, or files were taken as they are not stored in these offices but have a secured area where they are safely kept.”
The crime scene was immediately closed off, and specialised police units, including forensic, intelligence, and investigative teams, were on the scene. Fingerprints were collected and sent to the police’s forensic laboratory.
Senokoatsane assured the public the NPA office will continue to prosecute all cases.
