Centlec partners with SANDF to tackle infrastructure, security problems─── KEKELETSO MOSEBETSI 12:43 Wed, 11 Dec 2024
Mangaung’s power utility Centlec has teamed up with the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) to combat pressing infrastructure problems, including vandalism and security concerns.
The partnership aims to improve the state of Mangaung’s power network while dealing with the SANDF’s own energy-related challenges, said Centlec spokesperson Lele Mamatu.
Speaking to OFM News, he outlined a collaborative roadmap for the next three months agreed on during a meeting with SANDF management on Tuesday (10/12).
The power entity has been battling vandalism of its infrastructure that’s disrupted services and strained resources. Mamatu said the partnership would boost Centlec’s ability to secure and maintain its power networks.
The SANDF has begun addressing challenges with network infrastructure at Tempe, fixing streetlights, and resolving other electrical issues, said Mamatu.
While security remains a primary concern, Mamatu said the SANDF had no immediate plan to deploy troops to guard infrastructure. “However, over the next three months, we will map out this collaboration, including addressing security concerns.”

Mamatu called on communities to actively protect infrastructure by reporting vandalism and other illegal activities.
