Welkom teen plans to use ‘Sarie’ title to empower young women─── ZENANDE MPAME 11:34 Tue, 02 Sep 2025

Every woman has a story to tell. They are all unique; that’s what makes them special, says Sarie New Face 2025 winner, Welkom teen Lee-Shay Alexander.
Lee-Shay, 17, is ready to seize any opportunity that comes along in her modelling journey after being crowned the Sarie New Face 2025 last Thursday (28/8). The Sarie Cover Face 2025 winners were announced on the magazine’s social media pages.
Lee-Shay said her grandmother, a devoted Sarie reader, inspired her to enter the competition. When she was younger, they would collect and try out recipes from the magazine and enjoy its crossword puzzles.
She started her modelling journey two years ago. She says it has boosted her confidence and has allowed her to break out of her shell. “I’m pretty shy in real life, so the competition and modelling have helped me find myself and find belonging.
“I have a large platform on TikTok, and I plan to use this new exposure to give a voice to those who are afraid to speak up, while also inspiring other young women.

“I hope to use my platform to empower young people, particularly those who feel too shy or uncertain to express themselves.
“Every woman has a story to tell, and we are all unique, that’s what makes us special.”
When asked what comes next, Lee-Shay remains open to the possibilities. She doesn’t have a fixed plan but is committed to seizing opportunities as they arise.
“If something comes along, it’s for me. I look forward to whatever lies ahead in my modelling journey,” she said, highlighting her willingness to embrace the unknown and trust the path that unfolds before her.
The Grade 11 learner at Goudveld-Hoërskool has a keen interest in various aspects of the fashion industry. She’s considering a career as a flight attendant, drawn by the idea of exploring the world.
At the same time, she’s intrigued by somatology and often reads about skin health, as beauty treatments truly fascinate her.
Lee-Shay says participating in the competition was both an opportunity for self-growth and a tribute to her grandmother, who encouraged her to take chances.
