Case of Bloem sergeant accused of kidnapping postponed to October─── ZENANDE MPAME 14:43 Thu, 11 Sep 2025

The police officer arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a Bloemfontein learner will again appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 13 October.
The accused police officer, Sgt Nzima Adoons, made a brief appearance in court on Wednesday, 3 September. His case was postponed for further investigation. Adoons was granted bail of R2,000 in July, with strict conditions.
He may not interfere with the investigation or intimidate state witnesses. He must also report to his nearest police station twice a week, on Fridays and Sundays. The sergeant was linked to the kidnapping of 19-year-old Kamogelo Baukudi, a learner of Martie du Plessis School, who was found alive in Wepener on Friday, 27 June, 20 days after his kidnapping.
This followed a coordinated rescue operation under the leadership of Mangaung Metro district commissioner Maj. Gen. Arthur Peter Adams. A ransom of R7 million was demanded from his family for his release.
“The Adoons matter has been remanded to 13 October for further investigations,” said Free State NPA spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane.
Adoons was linked to the case by the tracker of the vehicle he drove on the day that Kamogelo was kidnapped. The vehicle tracker apparently put him at the exact location where Kamogelo was last seen.
The case against five other suspects arrested in connection with the kidnapping and extortion of the Martie du Plessis learner was not enrolled or registered with the court, as there was found to be no link between the suspects and the crime.
Three were apprehended at a house in Kanana, Wepener, while two others were caught on the road between Kwetla and Wepener with Kamogelo in their company.
Kamogelo was allegedly kidnapped after school on Thursday, 5 June, by men who impersonated police officers. He was picked up by a driver working for his parent, and they were allegedly followed and stopped near Vereeniging Drive.
Daniel Malebatso, the driver, alleges that he heard a siren behind them and the occupants of a white Toyota Hilux double-cab bakkie, fitted with blue “police lights”, pulled them over.
The duo was separated, and Malebatso was then told to drive ahead to the Park Road police office while they would follow with Kamogelo from behind. The Toyota Hilux, however, vanished from sight when a truck passed between the Suzuki and the vehicle.
