Free State agro-processors shine at food fair in Germany─── REFILWE BEKANE 15:00 Tue, 07 Oct 2025

Two pioneering Free State agro-processing companies are waving the provincial flag in Cologne, Germany. They showcase their unique products at the Anuga Food and Beverage Trade Fair.
The department of trade, industry and competition said Buttercup Farmhouse and Botebo Farming are among the 30 companies exhibiting in the South Africa National Pavilion. The initiative is set up by the department to help local companies get in touch with new international export markets.
“We constantly need to share our story and speak to the right buyers at the right time,” said Chantelle de Bruyn-Motshabi, CEO of Buttercup Farmhouse. More than 140,000 people visit the fair.
“We had a health challenge in the household where my grandfather couldn’t have any toxins in his system. I then developed a product for him as an alternative to coffee.”

Jacobsdal’s Botebo Farming, currently producing wine, juice, and raisins for the domestic market with limited exports to Lesotho and Zimbabwe, also seeks to leverage Anuga.
Managing director Tebogo Ditsebe sees the trade fair as a key step in her company’s expansion plan, which includes tapping into the raisins export market.
She said the growth of her business will have a positive impact because she can then create more jobs in Jacobsdal.

The Anuga Food and Beverage Trade Fair is a major biennial event for the food and beverage industry. It served as a high-profile launchpad for these South African businesses to test and expand into international markets.
