Two years later, family still searching for missing Bloemfontein woman─── ZENANDE MPAME 13:21 Fri, 07 Nov 2025
Two years after the disappearance of a Bloemfontein woman, her family remains trapped in uncertainty.
Lesego Motaung’s (22) aunt, Ntebo Mogwase, was the last person to see her when she left her home in Uitsig on 30 October 2023 for her job at a fast-food restaurant in Zastron Street, Westdene. Recently, Mogwase discovered there was activity on her niece’s phone number.
A WhatsApp profile with a man’s photo appeared under the number, and when she messaged him, he deleted his picture soon after reading it. The network provider possibly reassigned the number to someone else after it remained inactive for a long time, police said.
They will conduct a Section 204 investigation to determine who is using the number.
“Indeed, it has been two years now, ever since my child has been missing,” said Mogwase. “We haven't heard anything tangible from the police.
“The only development came when police reported a body had been found in Marquard, which they believed could be Lesego’s body because of similar features. However, we weren’t allowed to view the body.
“DNA tests were conducted with the body, and these took a very long time to process. Eventually, we were informed they did not match.”
Mogwase recalls how, after she made several follow-ups about the body, the investigator “came to me with a boot and they said this is what they found next to the body. They gave us the impression that it could be Lesego’s body because of the features.
“We are still waiting for the conclusion of the Section 204 investigation, to hear what result it will actually bring. We are still in pain as her family, and a lot of things don’t make sense,” she said.

On social media platform TikTok, where she posted her last video the day before her disappearance, Motaung is known as “The magician”.
She created video clips of herself as a magician: not a very skilled one, but funny. She has more than 120,000 followers.
Free State Police spokesperson Thabo Covane confirmed a case of kidnapping was opened at the Park Road police station following her disappearance. Any member of the public with information is asked to contact Capt. Yaliwe Mokoena at 082 5262 653.
