Bloemfontein police investigate the murder of three women─── ZENANDE MPAME 07:00 Mon, 09 Feb 2026
Mangaung police are investigating the fatal shooting of three women in the Bloemfontein area.
The first of the two shootings occurred on Saturday (7/2), when the body of an unknown woman, believed to be in her mid-thirties, was discovered lying on the side of Meadows Road in Bloemspruit. The woman had sustained fatal gunshot wounds to her head.
Less than 24 hours later, the Bloemspruit crime prevention unit discovered the bodies of two women lying near a residential property in Namibia Square with gunshot wounds to the back of their heads.
Emergency medical services were called to the scene, but both women were pronounced dead. “One was wearing a light blue pair of jeans with a green hoodie, while the other was dressed in a blue denim top and black denim jeans,” said Free State police spokesperson Mahlomola Kareli.
“At this stage, the identities of all three victims remain unknown as no identification documents were found at either scene. The motive for the killings is currently under investigation, and no arrests have been made.”
Police urge anyone with information regarding the identities of the deceased women or details that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators to come forward, he said.
Anyone who may have information regarding the identities of the deceased women, or any information, is urged to contact Det. Sgt Machalotsa of the provincial serious and violent crime (murder and robbery) unit on 073 729 1732, or the crime stop number on 08600 10111, or drop an anonymous tip-off via the MySAPS App.
‘The motive for the killings is currently under investigation’
This shooting follows after a former police employee and whistleblower, Patricia Mashale, testified at Parliament’s ad hoc committee on Tuesday (3/2) on corruption in the police.
During her testimony, she alleged that firearms were removed from the Free State SAPS storage and supplied to criminals and hitmen, leading to deaths caused by those weapons.
