Bloemfontein’s Bandit Boerboels is setting its sights on even greater success after claiming four prestigious titles at the 2026 South African Boerboel Breeders’ Society (SABBS) International Boerboel Show.

Bandit Orion emerged as one of the country’s finest Boerboels, claiming four desired titles: Dog of the Year, Senior Champion, Grand Champion and winner of Class 7B Males (18 to 24 months).

The achievement marks another milestone for Bloemfontein breeder Ziyaad Issa, whose dedication to preserving authentic South African Boerboel bloodlines has earned national recognition.

The victory follows Bandit Boerboels’ runner-up finish at the 2025 SA Stud Book Elite Awards, where the Bloemfontein kennel was recognised for excellence in record-keeping, genetic improvement and sustainable breeding practices.

Issa’s journey with the Boerboel began in 2001 when his mother gifted him his first Boerboel puppy. What started as a passion for the breed developed into a lifelong commitment to responsible breeding, culminating in the establishment of Bandit Boerboels in Groenvlei after officially registering with SABBS in 2014.

“Winning these titles is incredibly rewarding because they represent the hard work, discipline and commitment that goes into every aspect of our breeding programme,” said Issa. “Even a week later, seeing Bandit Orion still gives me goosebumps.

“For us, preserving temperament, structural soundness and authentic bloodlines is non-negotiable. Those are the qualities that define a true South African Boerboel and must be passed on to future generations.”

His advice to aspiring breeders is to never stop learning. “Attend workshops, do your research, work with experienced breeders and set clear goals from the beginning if you want to contribute meaningfully to the breed.”

Bandit Orion, a striking fawn male listed on the SR Elite Register, has undergone extensive health and genetic testing and is also a registered semen donor. Judges praised his powerful bone structure, deep chest, balanced movement and confident temperament, characteristics regarded as hallmarks of the authentic South African Boerboel.

Beyond the show ring, Issa also serves as a SABBS board member and Junior Appraiser representing the Free State, where he actively promotes responsible breeding practices and education within the industry.

He hopes to qualify as a senior appraiser while continuing to build Bandit Boerboels into one of the country’s leading breeding programmes. He also plans to campaign Bandit Orion at upcoming regional SABBS shows in Gauteng, with further competitions in the Eastern and Western Cape under consideration.

“Our focus now is to continue developing Bandit Orion, campaign him at more regional shows, and build on his legacy through his offspring while mentoring others who are passionate about preserving this proudly South African breed,” said Issa.
