There’s a strong belief in the Proteas Women’s camp that they can go all the way at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, but the team knows there’s still plenty of work to be done.

South Africa have already secured their place in the semi-finals, with two group games remaining against Pakistan and Australia before the knockout stages. The main goal now is to collect as many points as possible to finish in the top two.

Their next challenge comes on Tuesday when they face Pakistan, a side they met in the build-up to the World Cup and one that nearly pulled off an upset.

The Proteas boosted their confidence with a dominant ten-wicket victory over Sri Lanka on Friday, decided via the DLS method. That result confirmed their place in the top four and gave them valuable momentum heading into the business end of the tournament.

There’s a great spirit in the Proteas camp, and Botshabelo-born seamer Masabata Klaas says the team is united behind a clear goal.

“To be honest with you, we came here with one goal - to win the trophy,” said Klaas.

“When it comes to rain and things like that, it’s out of our control. But it actually worked in our favour in the last game because we managed to get in our 20 overs.”

Klaas emphasised the importance of staying grounded and taking each game as it comes.

“We’re ready, and we’re just going to keep doing what’s been working for us. We’ll go into Tuesday’s game with a positive mindset,” she said.

“Every match is important to us. Pakistan are a strong team - it’s not going to be a walk in the park. The key will be sticking to our basics and doing what we’ve been doing since day one of the tournament.

“We’re not taking anyone for granted.”

Tuesday’s clash between South Africa and Pakistan in Colombo is scheduled to start at 11:30.
