Proteas target consistency in last two T20I's against India─── MORGAN PIEK 09:12 Wed, 17 Dec 2025
The Proteas will be chasing greater consistency when they take on India on Wednesday in the fourth T20 International, set to be played in Lucknow.
India currently hold a 2–1 lead in the five-match series after claiming a seven-wicket win in Dharamsala on Sunday, and another victory on Tuesday will see the reigning T20 world champions wrap up the series with a game to spare.
South Africa’s consistency with the ball has been a concern at times during the tour, but their commanding 51-run victory in the second T20 in New Chandigarh offered a clear reminder of what they are capable of when things click. That said, India’s bowlers have been outstanding throughout the series and continue to pose a stern challenge.
With the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup scheduled to take place in India in 2026, the Proteas will be eager to build rhythm and momentum as they look ahead to returning to familiar conditions.
Fast bowler Anrich Nortjé, who recently made his return to international cricket following another lengthy injury lay-off, believes improving consistency will be key if South Africa are to turn the series around.
“Fluctuations are part and parcel of T20 cricket - sometimes you’re chasing, sometimes the conditions are tough, and sometimes it’s just not your night,” said the fiery quick.

“The key is trying to stay as consistent as you can, taking it ball by ball and focusing on what’s next, even when it’s a tough pill to swallow.
“Hopefully from here on in we can put together a more consistent run and pick up two wins.”
Nortjé added that quickly reading the pitch and adapting on the fly will also be crucial as the Proteas head into the final two matches of the series.

“There’s no pitch assessment from me beforehand,” Nortjé chuckled.
“Our main focus is to assess conditions as quickly as possible once the first ball is bowled, without going in with a preconceived idea.
“We’ve been good at reading conditions and adapting on the park, rather than relying on what a computer says. Once that first ball is delivered, you adjust and do what the game demands.”
Play between India and South Africa at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow is scheduled to get under way at 15:30.
