Joburg Super Kings cruise past Durban Super Giants for second consecutive win in SA20─── ILSE SMALBERGER 07:51 Wed, 31 Dec 2025
The Joburg Super Kings (JSK) demolished the Durban Super Giants (DSG) at Kingsmead in Durban for a second consecutive SA20 victory in the fourth series of the competition.
The Super Kings cruised past the Super Giants’ 86 all out with six wickets to spare within 12.2 overs to earn the visitors a bonus point and propel them into second place behind the table-topping Sunrisers Eastern Cape. Prenelan Subrayen returned to haunt his former team, Durban’s Super Giants, with an inspired new-ball spell, taking three wickets for 16 runs – featuring 15 dot balls.
Subrayen took out Devon Conway (4) in his first over, Kane Williamson (2) in his second, and Jos Buttler (12) in his third to leave the Super Giants reeling at 21/3. The Super Giants’ innings faltered away from thereon, with captain Aiden Markram (22 off 27 balls) not able to resuscitate his team’s innings on his own as JSK seamer Richard Gleeson ran through the tail with the astounding figures of 3/2.
JSK lost both their openers, captain Faf Du Plessis (3 off 6) and Matthew de Villiers (7 off 11), quickly, and were reeling on 24/3 after Simon Harmer took the scalp of Wiaan Mulder (1). But Rilee Rossouw took control of the innings, hitting five boundaries and a six to power his way to 43 (off 32 balls). Noor Ahmed eventually dismissed Rossouw, but Donovan Ferreira and Eathan Bosch delivered the final blows to DSG to seal the match.
Player of the Match, Subrayen, said after the match that it's always good to be back in Durban. “It was a good collective effort, and I was happy to give that start to my team,” he said. “The wicket was a bit on the tacky side, but that’s kind of normal for Kingsmead.”
JSK will be in action again on New Year’s Day, when they host DSG at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. The match starts at 17:30.
