The fourth annual Bloemfontein Coin Show will bring coin collectors, dealers and numismatic enthusiasts together in the city on Saturday (19/9).
Visitors can have their old coins and banknotes valued for free. The event at the Windmill Conference Centre will also give collectors the chance to browse rare and sought-after pieces, attend live auctions and potentially receive offers for items in their collections, with free entry from 10:00 to 15:00.
Organiser and owner of Bloemfontein Numismatics, Juan Terblanche, said the event provides an opportunity for both experienced collectors and people who may simply have old coins or notes at home to learn more about their value.
Visitors are encouraged to bring along coins and banknotes for a free valuation by participating dealers. Those who are interested in selling their collections may also receive an offer, depending on the items and whether a dealer is interested in purchasing them.
“It’s going to be an exciting event, with live auctions from Bassani Auction House and dealers from across the country bringing some of the rarest banknotes and coins in South Africa,” said South African numismatist and historian Landon Coleske.
“Collectors and members of the public will have the opportunity to discover rare coins and banknotes, meet dealers and learn more about the fascinating world of numismatics.”
Among the dealers expected at this year’s event are Bloemfontein Numismatics, P&G Coin, Bassani Auction House, The Coin Guy, GRCMint, TC Coin, Randcoin, Collectors Investments, Bucks & Gems and InvestGold.
The show follows the success of last year’s event, which attracted several prominent names in South African numismatics. Collectors will be able to browse a wide range of coins and banknotes, from affordable pieces to rare and highly sought-after items.
The event also offers collectors the advantage of being able to purchase items directly from dealers without having to pay shipping costs. In previous years, the show also featured special commemorative coins and demonstrations of coin-minting equipment, adding another dimension for visitors interested in the history and production of coins.
Terblanche said the show is aimed at everyone from seasoned collectors to people who are simply curious about an old coin or banknote they have inherited or found.
