“Recovery is probably key - under foot it’s really soft, so it makes it a longer walk, and it’s a long walk already. Those things are going to be key and conserving your energy for sure.”
Dean Burmester of Bloemfontein in the hunt going into the final round of the 106th PGA Championship being played at the Valhalla Golf Course in Louisville, Kentucky.
The South African is currently in ninth after three rounds on 11-under-par and four strokes off the pace.
Burmester carded a third round of three-under-par 68 after having to complete his second on Saturday. Following his second round Burmester was on 8-under-par and dropped one spot down the leaderboard.
Burmester is very much a confidence player and this is something that he has in abundance after winning the co-sanctioned Joburg and South African Opens earlier in the year, while is also beat Sergio Garcia in the play-off to win the LIV Miami in Florida in April.
Following his third round the 34-year-old said recovery will be key heading into the final round.
“Recovery is probably key - under foot it’s really soft, so it makes it a longer walk, and it’s a long walk already. Those things are going to be key and conserving your energy for sure.”
The South African will have some work to do on Sunday as Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa are in the joint lead on 15-under-par.
Their fellow American, Sahith Theegala is in third on 14-under-par, while Ireland's Shane Lowry made a big move up the leaderboard with a third round of nine-under-par to shoot up to tied fourth on 13-under-par.
Burmester's fourth and final round at the major gets underway at 19:55 on Sunday night.
