Reitan reigns supreme at Africa’s Major─── MORGAN PIEK 08:57 Mon, 08 Dec 2025
Kristoffer Reitan of Norway defied the odds at Sun City this weekend to clinch the 2025 Nedbank Golf Challenge title at the iconic Gary Player Country Club.
The Norwegian went into Sunday’s (7/12) final round with a commanding five-shot lead, but had to survive a fierce charge from South Africa’s Jayden Schaper and England’s Dan Bradbury before sealing victory by a single stroke on 17-under-par with a closing round of 72.
Reitan dominated the opening two rounds, but it was Schaper who surged ahead on Saturday as he looked to break South Africa’s title drought at Africa’s Major – a dry spell stretching back to 2017 when Branden Grace last lifted the crystal trophy.
But Reitan, who had never previously tasted success on South African soil, showed nerves of steel in the Pilanesberg heat to walk away with the coveted Million Dollar prize.
Reflecting on the biggest win of his career, Reitan said the week was all about staying mentally sharp and grinding his way through a demanding layout that has humbled many before him.
“It feels amazing – this is an incredible tournament, an unbelievable golf course and such a great crowd,” Reitan said afterwards.

“To win a tournament of this size, with all the legendary names already on this trophy, and to stand alongside Gary Player… I feel very lucky.
“But the pressure was excruciating at times, and I really didn’t help myself with some of the spots I put the ball in. I’m just happy to have got it over the line.
“My swing wasn’t cooperating today, so it was a 100% mental battle out there. It’s really, really hard to win a golf tournament, and I’m just relieved and proud.
“I was nervous over the approach into 18. I’m just glad I didn’t overthink it – I saw the target, committed to the shot, and it came off.”
Schaper finished as the top South African in what was a brilliant debut for the 24-year-old.
“It was my first time playing this event. Watching it on TV, you always picture yourself having that chance to win. It’s been one of the best weeks I’ve had. This event is so cool – I absolutely loved it out there.”
Schaper and Bradbury shared second place on 16-under after respective final rounds of 68 and 66.
