Dane Beisheim -

The environmental affairs department has branded the killing of eight rhino in the North West at the weekend as barbaric. Spokesperson, Albi Modise was speaking after the arrest yesterday of three men in Brits, North West, for the poachings. The Hawks' Paul Ramaloko said the men were found in their homes in Lethabo township. He said one of them was a ranger. They have been linked with the poaching of eight rhinos on Klipkopspruit farm. Seven rhino were found dead at the weekend and another on Monday. No horns were found in the men's residences. Ramaloko said the three will appear in the Brits Magistrate's Court tomorrow on charges of rhino poaching. Modise says around 570 rhino have been killed so far in 2012, with the Kruger National Park the most affected, followed by the North West and KwaZulu-Natal:
