One of the Free State's most wanted criminals is set to appear in court after he was arrested in Katlehong, Sasolburg.
According to police spokesperson Maselela Langa, members of the task team received a tipoff that the 38-year-old man was at a tavern in the township Friday night.
When they arrived, the man fled and started shooting at the officers who were pursuing him. They returned fire, wounding him in the thigh.
He was arrested and taken to hospital for treatment.
The suspect is wanted for robberies and break-ins in Sasolburg, Deneysville, Orangeville, Viljoendrift, Nigel and Spings. He also allegedly escaped from Modder prison.
