Bloemfontein - The University of the Free State is playing a leading role in the transformation processes at institutions of higher learning across the country.
This statement was made today by the Director of the International Institute for the Studies in Race, Reconciliation and Social Justice at the UFS, André Keet, at a feedback session on progress made by the university to meet the obligations set out in the Deed of Settlement signed by the five colleagues involved in the Reitz incident about six years ago.
Keet spoke about the university's transformation processes since these staff members were humiliated by students who were opposed to transformation.
He added that the university has an excellent functioning mechanism for reporting incidents of discrimination to the South African Human Rights Commission.
It was also mandated to initiate a Human Rights Desk, which aims to deepen the study of human rights in higher education and society.
