Ladybrand - Things appear to be back to normal at the Maseru border post in Ladybrand in the Free State after a blockade on the Lesotho side earlier halted motorized traffic.
Coordinator of the Border Control Operational Coordinating Committee (BCOCC) Lieb Venter has confirmed that the border post was reopened to vehicles around 11:00 this morning. He could not elaborate on the reasons for the closure saying it is a diplomatic issue and that South African and Lesotho officials are currently engaged in talks.
This is the second time this month that the Lesotho side of the border has been closed, with allegations that the disruption might be related to a route dispute by Lesotho taxi owners.
Venter meanwhile says the border post is currently operating as normal but has advised travellers to watch the media in case of further closures.
Alternate border posts are located at Peka Bridge, Ficksburg and Wepener.
