Sasolburg - Police say the situation around the municipal workers strike in Sasolburg has calmed down. They confirmed that rubber bullets were fired at striking workers after they broke windows at the municipal building and also further attempted to vandalize the building. There were no reported injuries.
Municipality spokesperson, Gino Alberts says hundreds of workers have been on strike since last week Tuesday.
Alberts added that Metsimaholo municipality management had a meeting with leaders from the South African municipal workers union (SAMWU) last week. SAMWU then gave the striking workers feedback last week Friday but they were unhappy with the resolutions and decided to continue to strike. Police are on the scene.
