One person killed and four injured in Potchefstroom accident─── 06:57 Wed, 29 Oct 2014

Potchefstroom - One person was killed and four others injured yesterday evening when a bakkie collided with a truck on the R53 in Potchefstroom.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring says paramedics and provincial fire services found a wrecked bakkie laying beneath a large truck. Five people, including three children, lay trapped within the mangled bakkie.
Meiring says the driver sustained fatal injuries and a woman and three children, aged between three months to 10 years, were in a critical condition and trapped in the vehicle.
He says provincial fire services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the four passengers. Once freed, patients received advanced life support before they were transported to Potchefstroom Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
He says it is believed that the collision was cause by the truck doing a u-turn on the road.
