UFS confirms registrar’s appointment─── THANDI XABA 15:48 Thu, 18 Jun 2015

Bloemfontein - A new registrar has been appointed at the University of the Free State (UFS).
Dr Metsu Jacob Gift Vinger was appointed to the post recently and will exercise control over management and policy at the university. Vinger will assume duty on 1 July 2015.
According to reports Dr Vinger was appointed in place of Dr Derek Swemmer whose contract got suspended after a controversial incident involving his wife, Professor Driekie Hay who was the vice-rector, who then also had to leave the university.
Sapa earlier reported that that Dr Vinger who was previously the registrar of the Central University of Technology (CUT), was suspended earlier from CUT after having a fall out with the rector, Professor Thandwa Mthembu.
Dr Vinger obtained his BA degree at the former Vista University in 1988 and his BA Honours at the UFS in 1990. He has qualifications from the Pennsylvania State University in the USA and the North-West University, amongst others. He completed his DPhil (Leadership in Performance and Transformation) at the University of Johannesburg in 2005.
Dr Vinger has been active in higher education for the past 26 years and previously held posts as Registrar at the University of Zululand (2013 to 2015) and the Central University of Technology (2007 to 2012).
