Leasing agreements in NC investigated─── CATHY DLODLO 15:44 Mon, 01 Feb 2016

Kimberley - Several leasing agreements signed by the Northern Cape government are being investigated by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU).
This is according to the Deputy-General Governance, Risk and Compliance of the national department of Public Works, Imtiaz Fazel.
He said during a meeting with the National Council of Province’s Economic and Business Development Committee, 39 cases involving leasing agreements nationally were launched during the 2014/15 financial year.
Fazel said the cases involving the Northern Cape leasing agreements came within the ambit of the proclamation of the SIU and all leases concluded since 2003 up to August 2014 in the province are under investigation. Some of these agreements formed part of the fraud and corruption case against former ANC provincial chairperson and finance MEC, John Block, Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC, Alvin Botes, and now late ANC MP, Yolanda Botha.
The leasing period and the exorbitant rental of 30 lease agreements were central to the case. Block has been found guilty of corruption, fraud and money laundering.
Botes was found not guilty and Botha died after being diagnosed with skin cancer.
