Netcare 911 paramedics, the fire department and several other services arrived at the scene and found the roadway obstructed with the twisted frames of the vehicles, while some of the injured were still trapped in the wreckages.

After triaging, it was found that two men died before paramedics' arrival, one person was in a critical condition, two were seriously injured while four others sustained moderate injuries.

Paramedics stabilised the injured at the scene before they transported them to various hospitals for the care they required. The critically injured patient, however, died soon after arriving at hospital leaving the death toll at three.
