DA welcomes court ruling on Metsimaholo councillor | News Article

Bloemfontein - The Democratic Alliance in the Free State has welcomed a court ruling that supports their firing of a former DA councillor from the Metsimaholo Municipal Council.

Benjamin Mothibe’s party membership was cancelled after a disciplinary process found he had worked in cahoots with the ANC in the town council.

After Mothibe’s DA membership was revoked he should have lost his council seat and the municipal manager should have declared a vacancy. But this never happened because the Metsimaholo municipal manager refused.

Free State DA leader, Patricia Kopane, says the matter went to court and it was found that the municipal manager wrongly interfered with the DA’s disciplinary process.

Kopane says the DA can now fill the vacant seat in the council.
