Power cuts to Tsantsabane Municipality cancelled | News Article

Electricity supply interruptions to Tsantsabane Local Municipality have been cancelled.

This comes after the municipality and Eskom reached and signed a payment agreement on Wednesday. Supplyinterruptions will continue in Renosterberg, Siyancuma, and Thembelihle, however. Interruptions have been extended from two to threehours by the electricity supplier. Northern Cape towns that will be affected are Vanderkloof, Griekwastad, and Hopetown, among others. Interruptions are in their third week. According to Eskom’s Khulu Phasiwe, Tsantsabane made a payment to enable negotiations.

“We are hopeful that the remaining municipalities in the Northern Cape like Siyancuma, Thembelihle, and Renosterberg will also follow the example that has been set by Tsantsabane so that they too can enjoy the benefits of uninterrupted electricity,” explained Phasiwe.

OFM News previously reported that six Northern Cape municipalities owed Eskom about R500 million in outstanding electricity payments. The owing municipalities were Siyancuma Local Municipality, Siyathemba Local Municipality, Renosterberg, Thembelihle, Tsantsabane, and Kei Garib. Siyathemba and Kai Garib were the first two to make payments before interruptions began.
