Situation monitored at #UFS after disruption─── MARK STEENBOK 15:49 Thu, 19 Oct 2017
The University of the Free State (UFS) says rumours circulating on social media about a basic percentage point increment in relation to tuition fees for 2018 are false.
Spokesperson Lacea Loader said in a statement that an increase of 8% in tuition fees for 2018 was merely used as a discussion point in a meeting between the university’s management and the Student Representative Council (SRC) yesterday. She adds that no decision has been made about the tuition fee increase for 2018.
Loader says the situation on the Bloemfontein Campus is under control and is being monitored closely, with academic activities on the campus continuing as usual today.
“The Rector and Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Petersen, has been in discussion with the President of the Bloemfontein Campus Student Representative Council, Asive Dlanjwa, regarding yesterday’s disruption of academic activities on the campus. The campus management of the Qwaqwa Campus is in a similar conversation with the campus SRC, and discussions will continue today,” says Loader.

A memorandum of demands was handed over to the rector on the Bloemfontein campus today.
