Police in the Northern Cape have arrested a 35-year-old farm worker after he allegedly shot dead a farmer in the Griekwastad district.

Police spokesperson, Mohale Ramatseba, says the suspect and the farm owner allegedly had an argument on the farm yesterday at about 15:00. It is still unknown about what they argued. According to Ramatseba, the farm worker fled the scene with the farmer's bakkie after he killed him.

Police gave chase after which the suspect allegedly lost control of the bakkie in which he fled the scene. Ramatseba says before the bakkie capsized the suspect shot and injured a 26-year-old community member of Rainbow Valley. Details of the latter shooting are sketchy but police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.

The injured community member has been admitted to hospital, says Ramatseba.

Meanwhile, the .22 rifle that was allegedly used by the suspect in both shootings was recovered by police.

The suspect is expected to appear in the local Magistrate's Court soon.

The 35-year-old farmer from Griekwastad was the third farmer who was shot dead on a farm in Central South Africa yesterday - the day after Black Monday.
