Parys Six murder trial: Neurologist testifies | News Article

Dr Talenie de Bruin, a neurologist, was the first witness called upon to testify today in the matter against six Parys men accused of murdering two alleged farm attackers.

Boeta van der Westhuizen, his son Loedie, son-in-law Miela Janse van Vuuren, Anton Loggenberg, his son Cor, and Henk Prinsloo are accused of murdering Samuel Tjixa and Simon Jubeba in January 2016.

De Bruin works at the Universitas Hospital in Bloemfontein and was called upon for consultation when Samuel Jubeba was admitted to Pelonomi  Hospital in Bloemfontein on January 7, a day after the alleged assault.

De Bruin testified that Jubeba’s condition was such that medical personnel could only ensure that he was made comfortable and wait for natural death to occur.

When asked by the State about the administering of the drugs Dormicum and Pethidine to stabilise the patient at Parys Hospital, De Bruin said that there are better drugs available. She added, however, that in the absence of these, she would have administered the drugs available, even though it may affect breathing and CO2 levels in the brain.

The court was adjourned shortly before 11:00 and would resume again after a few minutes.
