Five suspects will be appearing before the Marquard Magistrate’s Court today after they were found with fifty bullets and an unlicensed pistol.
The suspects were in a suspicious looking red Ford sedan when they were stopped and searched by police.
In an unrelated case, Sasolburg police are on the lookout for a suspect who escaped custody on Wednesday. Twenty-year-old Thabang Mokoena was an accomplice in a case of theft before he was arrested and appeared in court. The suspect from Harry Gwala was dressed in civilian clothes at the time of his escape. Anyone with information on his whereabouts may contact Captain Themba Makhubo, on 016-973-2192. According to police’s Phumelelo Dhlamini, police were on patrol when the firearm was discovered.
Dhlamini said police officials were on the R708 road when they noticed the vehicle driving recklessly. They stopped it and four men and a driver came out of the vehicle, they were all searched together with their vehicle. An unlicensed firearm was found and a case of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition has been opened.
