FS Health MEC addresses questions regarding #HealthCrisis, poor #ServiceDelivery─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 14:46 Tue, 05 Jun 2018
Free State Health MEC, Montsheng Tsiu, confirms the shortage of resources, dilapidated infrastructure, overcrowding at hospitals and high vacancy rate are among some of the critical issues the department are grappling with.
This after opposition parties in the province embarked on an unannounced oversight visit to hospitals in Welkom and Qwaqwa yesterday and lambasted the department for the poor state of public healthcare facilities.
Free State EFF Chairperson, Kgotso Morapela, and DA Shadow Minister of Health, Patricia Kopane, said the health system in the province and around the country is on the verge of collapse and there is a need for urgent intervention. Visiting the Pelonomi Hospital’s maternity ward, earlier today, Tsiu told OFM News that they have taken note of all challenges raised by medical personnel and staff at this hospital and the Bongani Hospital in Welkom.
Tsiu adds that they have thus far made a list of submissions for posts that are vacant, and can assure the public that Treasury is considering the submission and the department will soon fill the vacancies.
