Investigation of #Ramkraal millions before FS Legislature | News Article

A progress report on the investigation by the Auditor-General into millions that were paid for the Ramkraal-project by the Free State government is expected to be tabled in the provincial legislature on Wednesday.

Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee of Public Accounts in the Free State Legislature, Neels van Rooyen, says the joint committee that was formed to look into the project is expected to hear how far the investigation is and when a report will be available. The Auditor-General is investigating how R120 million was spent on Ramkraal – a Heritage Site - without any work being done. The Ramkraal site was earmarked for the construction of a new Legislature Complex.

Millions were paid out but no physical work was done at the now dilapidated area. In an interview with OFM News, Free State Finance MEC, Elsabe Rockman ,said the scope of the investigation now includes more departments - including the legislature and the provincial department of Public Works.

The project has since been halted. Opposition parties slammed the provincial government for the money that seemed to be mainly spend on architects and consultants.
