The Auditor-General’s, Aletta van Tromp, says there is a high need to fast tract investigations in the controversial Ramkraal project.

Presenting her office’s progress report into millions that were paid for this project by the Free State Government, she confirmed that procurement processes were not followed and that they are still trying to establish reasons as to why this historic site was chosen for the construction of a new Legislature Complex.

She also confirms that they have received documents from the Free State Heritage Council, stating their concerns over the use of this heritage site - and the poor state in which it now stands.

It is alleged that over R120 million has already been spent yet the building still stands dilapidated. Van Tromp said the documents in their possession thus far indicate an expenditure of close to R90 million, but it remains worrisome that some stakeholders involved in this project have not submitted all the required documents.
