Fraud case re-opened against official─── 16:16 Thu, 19 Jul 2018
The criminal case involving a North West municipal official and two grocery store employees who conned their local municipality out of hundreds of thousands has been reopened.
North West police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, confirmed to OFM News that the case against a JB Marks municipal official and two employees from a local grocery story – Choppies was closed last month.
This follows after a senior prosecutor found the case has little chance to be prosecuted successfully.
But, says Mokgwanbone, the police instead opted to reopen the case. It is alleged that the implicated municipal official deposited municipal funds into a food parcel account at the local grocery store every month. Instead of food parcels the official would then collect the account balance in cash.
