According to a resident from Universitas, Senne Bogatsu, residents are leaving because they cannot deal with the noise and other issues that student houses come with. 

 She says student houses are not controlled due to the fact that the owners are not on the premises, so students are allowed to do as they please. That bothers the other residents. She says students come out in their numbers and have parties until the next morning. 

Bogatsu explained that when she tries to speak to these students they throw garbage into her yard, they break beer bottles on her driveway and move for sale signs from other houses to her front lawn. 

Meanwhile, the Mangaung Metro Municipality spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, told OFM News that they are appealing to the owners of these student houses to please rezone their properties. He says that the people need to register with the municipality’s planning department so that the municipality is aware of the student houses. He explained that they will be warning owners of the consequences if the municipality takes action.
