No arrests after Bloemhof violence | News Article

The North West police are still monitoring the volatile situation in Boitumelong Township near Bloemhof following yesterday’s rampage by residents in which a 27-year-old man was killed. Six people were assaulted by disgruntled residents.

The man died in hospital after he was beaten up by community members. According to the police spokesperson, Amanda Funani, the police are investigating a case of murder and assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm.

Funani says four of the six assaulted people are still in the Bloemhof Hospital.

Funani says the person who was sent to Tshepong Hospital in Jouberton near Klerksdorp after suffering serious injuries from the assault, also remains in hospital.

On Monday, OFM News reported about the gang war that was sparked by the murder of an SVK gang member, in which six people were killed and others burnt to death in retaliation involving members of the HL and Donyos gangs in Kanana near Orkney.

She says the residents barricaded roads yesterday, complaining about gangsterism.

“They say they were protesting because they are tired of gangsterism in Bloemhof. They took six people they claim are gang members and assaulted them. They were later transported to the hospital,” says Funani.

Funani further says no-one has been arrested at this stage but the police are investigating the brutal incident.

Meanwhile, some of the residents have accused politicians of using gang members to further their agendas. They allegedly buy alcohol, get intoxicated and disrupt meetings.
