Bail proceedings for the two policemen who are alleged to have helped engineer the murder of Bloemfontein businessman, Louis Siemens, in May are expected to get underway today.

This comes after the matter regarding the accused Molebatsi Mogoera and Kagiso Chabane’s bail applications were postponed on Friday 7 September. This was done to afford their co-accused, businessman Stanley Bakili, an opportunity to obtain legal counsel, as he was without one on the day.

The Bayswater detective and the court orderly have been accused of colluding with Bakili in planning the murder. The businessman, accused number 1 in the case, had previously abandoned his bail application on the back of his numerous court appearances. It was during this court appearance that the prosecution revealed the relationship between the accused.

The prosecution previously revealed that the policemen who were apprehended at the end of last month were Bakili’s accomplices in engineering the crime, the two officials are not the assassins. The prosecution says there is ample evidence of the officials’ involvement in the murder, which reveals they were not accessories after the fact, as initially suspected, but helped orchestrate the murder. This evidence includes phone records, bank transactions, and information of a vehicle tracker. As a result, the witness list was not added to the provisional indictment out of fear that the witnesses would be influenced, this as Mogoera and Chabane’s legal counsel each has copies of the indictment. The prosecution said authorities know who the assassins are but do not where they are located.
