Former missing Welkom woman appears in court for perjury, fraud | News Article

The 34-year-old woman who was arrested last week for allegedly lying about being raped and abducted by four men after she went missing for close to two weeks, is expected to appear in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court this morning.

According to police spokesperson in the Free State, Stephen Thakeng, the woman will appear on charges related to perjury for lying about a case she said she had opened against her alleged rapists after she was found in Port Elizabeth.

Thakeng also said she will appear on charges of fraud and theft after she had a warrant of arrest issued for a separate matter where she allegedly defrauded a farmer in the North West of game worth about R145 000. She was arrested last week after her husband, Danie Bezuidenhout, who had reported her missing on 12 November, was notified that she was found in Port Elizabeth. Bezuidenhout drove to the Eastern Cape to fetch her and upon arrival in Welkom, they went to the local police station, where she was apprehended and remanded in custody.
